Description

Although I took lots more shots at the Oakland Zoo, this will be my last post from this batch for a while, as I have other images I'd like to share. Everyone's seen the prominent & colorful buttocks of baboons & mandrills, but do you know what those fleshy pads are called & what they're good for? They're a form of callus that are called ischial callosities. They enable baboons & mandrills to sleep sitting upright on thin branches, beyond reach of predators, without falling... Please zoom
