Description
In the heart of flourishing fruit orchards, there is the hamlet of Cermes,on the slopes of the Val d’Adige. This is the view we had from our hotel.
The municipality of Cermes is dominated by the mighty Lebenberg Castle,Castel Monteleone in Italian, dating back to the year 1426, built by the Lords of Marlengo, a nearby village, and repeatedly enlarged. Since it is a private mansion, where the family still lives, visits are subject to their pleasure and timetable, so we couldn't visit it.

I love living in places with a view like this, even if it's just a hotel for a few days. One of the things I love about Europe is the fact that it's possible to see something built in the 1400s and then realize the people still live in it. I also find it rather funny to see a place built in the 1400s in a small town, only to see a diminutive satellite dish somehow attached to it, even if it's not directly attached to the roof (if the place is a UNESCO World Heritage Site) it's somehow improvisationally attached...usually with a really long, not-so-well-disguised cable leading from some improbable tree trough some improbable window. I love this image. The hills and the greenery are so relaxing.
