Description

Some of you have heard me talk about the work we've been doing this summer getting our camping lot landscaped. A friend of ours built us a deck, and we did the rest with our own four hands! (Two of Bill's and two of mine, in case you're wondering how that worked out.) The first shot was taken when the deck was almost finished and we had just started on the wall. The second shot shows the deck complete with stairs, and the wall project moving right along with the stairs done. The third shot shows the wall finished, complete with landscape fabric around the edges. The tree has been ringed around with blocks, and there are pavers next to the deck. The fourth shot is what it looks like now. Topsoil has been spread, there's a path between the deck and the stairs in the wall, and we've put down grass seed and mulch (that's the green stuff). I was going to tell you we just painted the dirt, but really ... Bill is looking forward to mowing grass for some reason, so he's out there twice a day watering the seed. This has been a fun project! Neither of us had ever built a wall like this before, although we've seen it done on DIY shows many times, so we had the theory down pat. (Level, level and level!) I'm sure we'll enjoy our results for years to come. :)

Isn't landscaping just so much fun!? I don't get to do enough of it, but I can understand the grass-mowing thing; it smells so good! It's the smell, I think; freshly mowed grass always reminds me of the smell of a watermelon's green skin once it's been cut. I love the progression of shots here, and the retaining wall/steps are so deliciously well done! I would be rather excited if moss started growing there as well! This is super!

Thanks for the description. At first I thought you spent your summer vacation taking pictures of a Winnebago. ;-) Nice series of pictures. You all did a great job. I understand Bill's obsession. I think its a holdover from little boys' fascination with dirt. So for Halloween can we expect a post from you on "I know what you did last summer"?

Well, cool! When I get ready to put pavers in that little dirt area outside my back door, I know who to call for advice! LOL! That really looks great, Tara! You and Bill make a great creative team! Next thing you know you'll have your own show on HGTV! LOL!

Pretty swanky! Isn't it nice when a project comes together? Actually it DOES look like you've painted grass onto the last picture. Which makes me think of several houses I saw in Florida that had front "yards" that were obviously made of poured cement that had then been painted kelly green. Of course you see a lot of strange things in Florida... Mowing grass is a guy thing, with history, and traditions and folklore all it's own. Joe Walsh has gone on record as saying he wrote "Rocky Mountain Way" while mowing his lawn. And there you have it. Looks like a summer well spent.

Wow, this fine series of shots gives me a chance to step back from our project and enjoy the end result...I've been so busy watering lately I haven't really reflected on our landscaping that began in earnest in late June. Just where did our summer go? Or the better question, what do we do to top this next summer? ;-)

Very impressive project & a great looking result. Fortunately, I'm allergic to mowing the lawn & start sneezing immediately if I attempt it, so my wife gets to do it instead...
