Description
Captured 9/24/12, very early AM, within the vast perimeter of the neighborhood.
A ZOOM would be most propitious.
The long shadow season is nigh upon us, so I'm taking advantage of it early. It gets better if and when the days begin with bright sunlight.
I haven't checked the previous leaf shadow fotos recently, but I believe this is the first one that shows the leaf itself with such cool detail and texture.
Sayonara, and have a nice day.

Fantastic capture Harry, those are some really cool shadows off of that leaf

Your capture of this leaf is spot-on, Harry; wonderful clarity and detail, and the shadow is like a fine art frame around it. Well spotted, and I agree, this is the best time of year for those long shadows!

You know, I saw some leaves on the sidewalk the other day and I thought of you and how you would have been taking pictures. Did not have my camera though.

Denise spoke very eloquently to this. And to the beautiful shadows this time of year, as you pointed out in your words. My neighborhood---overrun by trees---is especially prone to heavy shadows this time of year; but you find them in a single leaf on a sidewalk. Here, again, is that poetry I spoke of: In fact, when I saw I hadn't commented on this yet, I wondered what had hit me. I like morninglory's comment---forgive that I've forgotten her name---ie, that she saw some leaves on a sidewalk and pictured you out, shooting it. This capture is so natural, yet so few can get shots like these. In fact, most photographers walk right past them---I still can't do shots like these, I just haven't found the connection yet, I haven't gotten there. This is another of those single items that cast a long shadow (like a llama) and is surrounded by a wonderful textured sidewalk. You do things with concrete that a lot of us don't do with sunrises or sunsets. The detail on the leaf (I agree) is sharp and eloquent, and filled with beautiful amber light and shadow. And, zounds, you caught this when the shadows were in total sync with the grain of the sidewalk! You must know that morning light intimately, to capture that harmony. Another beautiful poem from the simplest sight, beautiful and simple, once more. I bet you wish the morning light would stick around for hours: It has to be frustrating---as it is for me, with the lake---when it changes so fast. Through your gallery, I feel like I know L.A.'s morning light intimately. You've caught its many moods masterfully.
