Description

Captured 9/28/12, early AM, within pedestrian distance of my semidomesticated dwelling. Do ZOOM. Two yellow metal poles sit in front of a parking lot, both similar in that they have padlocks and chains wrapped around them that were once stretched out from pole to pole to block off the parking lot. The locks and chains have since corroded and haven't been used for eons. Ciao, and have a nice day.

I like the "Fall colors" of the chain, Harry.

That chain seems awfully low to the ground. I don't think a car would have a problem driving over it.:-)

Wonderful colours and textures in the post and chains, Harry, what a great find! I guess they decided their parking lot wasn't all that worth protecting after all, eh? Great clarity in this photo!

well, all the qualities of the shot aside, this is an example of the statement, "part of a photograph's value is in the find itself"---ie, that part of the photographer's art is seeing such things to begin with. Rather than shrugging and walking away (which is what many would do). This is a feast. I mean yes, it's old, rusted, decayed, discolored like all get-out, multi-hued without being 'beautiful', and on and on, but it's a total feast for the eyes, an eye party. I love the composition, how the yellow fans out towards us; and how the awful purple and orange of the links pile up below us. Fa-shoomp! A big clash of metal...And that awful padlock up top, a great ornery capper. Also, the yellow chain on the ground is a strong accent against all those darker hues. Then there's the texture of the gravel around it, so glad you let it speak. And you gave us some "straw" in the right too (as well as around the post...). As one photographer would say, "what a glorious mess!" A cornucopia of process and decay...Nothing scares you away: You're gonna listen for the music wherever you go. This one's a symphony. Another terrific addition to this series...
