Description
The result of a tortured mind gone berserk, or possibly a level of primal therapy?
Capture 9/28/12, early morning, of a telephone pole at the northwest corner of an intersection about three quarters of a mile from my hackneyed haven.
Don't bother to ZOOM. It comes out the same size.
Actually, this is just one of a pair of similar nail-studded poles, about a mile apart, running along the same street.
And, logically, this is the result of tons/tonnes of advertising flyers, placards and posters having been attached to the poles over decades. Ergo the reason they are at an intersection. The bent nails were either poorly pounded in or were applied that way to more effectively keep the reading matter in place. Any other speculation as to this madcap scene would be appreciated.
Allaismalardik, and have a nice day.

Fly-posting is regulated here. This makes a great image!

Amazing find, Harry. The pole looks a bit tortured.

What a fascinating scene you've captured; I've seen this kind of thing before, but never thought to get a closeup of all the detritus of advertising. That's a lot of garage sales over the years! Well done, Harry!

Wow !!! If only this pole can talk. You can find every conceivable type of nail here. Roofing, finishing, every size and length. I even spotted a small screw on the right side. Staples galore. Cool capture and unusual Dad.

It really does look as if someone went mad here, but what a great effect it has become.

the comments are great, testifying to the wonderful shot. Love your son's comment, "if only this pole can talk," not to mention that he knows the actual kinds of nails and screws! Made me go back and look once more. It has tons of staples too, as you point out in your title: Why such a variety? I guess whoever posts an ad uses whatever tools they can get their hands on...Then Nancy, "as if someone went mad here". And Hendesse's understated "these are a lot of nails" (!). An image which affirms that knowing what to shoot is sometimes the essence of the shot: This one is definitely in that category, because you bothered to stop and look, study and shoot. And you got it at an intersection: Well, one, I hope the early morning hour meant you didn't have to stand 2 inches from traffic; and two, I can't imagine this was an easy shoot, because you probably didn't have lots of room to maneuver, that is without stepping into the street or stepping through a window...However you did it, it's a sweeping view of a wild and giddy surface, with wonderful detail and clarity; there are shapes up there that almost look like a lizard crawling up the pole; and you got bits of paper and a whole lot of visual counterpoint to boot. I promised I'd comment on this last time, and you see I'm a few weeks behind: But I didn't forget it. This is a party. Terrific. I wonder if the other residents of your neighborhood realize they're living in an art gallery: They should see your collection. You just don't stop finding inspiration. It's amazing.

Great shot Harry. Each nail has it's own history.
