Description

About 85% of the flock shown, waiting patiently for their daily morning breakfast from a Hindu temple person below, followed by a feeding frenzy. Captured 10/10/12, close to 1.25 miles from my harmonious habitat. Much better via ZOOM. I never stand directly below this bevy of birds. Ta-ta, and have a nice day.

Sorry, not pigeons they are swallows. They clucter like this where I live, just before they migrate to warmer climates. Well seen though.

Sorry, ratfugel, you are so wrong. They are pigeons and not swallows. No way are they swallows. I've stood right next to them while they have been on the ground hunting for food. They coo like pigeons. I've been around these kind of birds all my life. My next door neighbor cousin raised pigeons. And the guys shown in the photo don't migrate during the winter.

Pigeons for sure. That's a bunch of them. I'm sure they are a sight to watch while feeding.

That is quite a collection you have spotted and it is a wonder your camera didn't get redecorated being under them like this. A great POV.

As I mentioned in my text, which I doubt everyone reads, I wasn't anywhere within bombing range of these birds when I was snapping this photo.

Wow, that's a lot of pigeons! Makes me think of the movie "Bird on a wire". Only this would be called "Flock on A Few Wires". We don't normally see them on power lines here; they hang out more under bridges and stuff. I think they're so pretty.

yeah, they look like pigeons to me! (And in chicago, we got pigeons. Oh have we got pigeons...) I read your comment about not standing directly underneath, and it made me think of the angle and perhaps zoom you must've used to make it feel like we're nearly underneath them. Fine work on that score. What's even finer is the sheer contrast and clarity of the capture: This is fine design, Harry. A few simple criss-crossed lines, ornamented by all those birds---in varying densities---against a stunning clear-blue sky. It's a piece of minimalist abstraction, and yet it's rich. And nice that you gave us a flying bird too, along with a lone bird on a distant wire. Beautiful contrasts, clarity, and conception. I know it's hard to do this without a massive sensor, etc, but images like these would be wonderful huge size. Trouble is, without a massive kit (the kind you'd have to hock your house for), it would be hard to blow this up that big without loss of resolution. But this is real photography, my friend. Bold and beautiful work.
