Description
An ancient Mayan calendar that has been accurately keeping time for thousands of years will inexplicably run out of dates some time around the Winter Solstice in 2012. How will the world end?
Here is Scenario #2:
2-Headed Frogs:
Silent Spring
And probably every other season, too. Rachel Carson's stern (and well-documented) warnings in 1962 about impending disaster from pesticides and other toxic chemicals added to Earth's environment were so profound that The New York Times ran a series of articles about them months before the book was actually published. Carson is remembered as one of the catalyts for much of the environmental stewardship that we do practice today. But there is so much more to do, especially with so many nations joining the West in full-scale industrialization. Ironically, some variations of the original Earth Day flag featured the Greek letter Theta: their symbol for death. The one thing we have to appreciate better is how critically our fate is tied to those of other species. An Opinion published in the October 30, 2012 edition of The New York Times notes that Super Storm Sandy's coastal damage might have been less severe if centuries of human exploitation hadn't decimated mid-Atlantic oyster reefs.
