Nothing amazing, just a test of a new character since I haven't posted anything in a bit.
The first character I ever used in rendering years ago was Hiro 3, because back then it was free and probably came with Daz Studio. I don't remember. I bought the "Stratus" morphs and mats for H3 and tried out my first render. It looked amazingly realistic in Daz Studio. As a person with no artistic skills or experience, I was hooked. I bet there's a bunch of us now with similar stories of how we got into this hobby.
Shortly afterwards I switched to Poser for reasons I can no longer remember, and the Poser version of the Stratus morphs never looked as good as it did in Daz, in my opinion.
Now Hiro 5 (Genesis) has been released and the same folks who made the Stratus setup for H3 made a Hiro 5 version, so I had to get it for sentimental reasons.
So this is how the first test render turned out. I think he looks pretty realistic and is a good adolescent character, but as I have very few clothes for Genesis I won't be doing much of anything with him. I don't really have a use for it, but I figured I'd burn a few bucks to compare to my first couple of renders I ever did and see how things have improved.
So far I'm pretty pleased with the whole Genesis-to-Poser "DSON" converter thing. With the sub-surface scattering, they usually turn out looking a lot better than they've ever looked before. I just haven't taken much time to make a decent render yet with the new Poser 2012 setup. Shame on me. I wasn't sure I'd like the SSS at first, because all it seemed to do at first glance was just make the whole thing look fuzzier and brighter. But after a few weeks of it I think it does look more realstic.

Not a bad looking character. Great job!

I like how the SSS makes the edges have a bit of a translucent look--it seems to work especially well on pale characters. Hiro looks like the perfect test guy for it! I have so many characters packed away I never use, poor things, including Hiro--you make me want to pull him out again!
