Description

This is for Photosynthesis who requested a picture of the Blue Mosque without trees. That is only possible from the inner courtyard as we see here. One of the external marvels of the Blue Mosque, and indeed something that it is famous for, is this cascade of domes. You can see how the domes are all rich with windows. This makes the interior bright with natural lighting but also gives some wonderful shadow effects too. There is no other Ottoman mosque that is so richly constructed and is a tribute to the genius of its designer Sedefkâr Mehmet Ağa. The young sultan Ahmed I, a dynamic if not overly successful leader, was so impatient to have the mosque finished that he even actively participated in its construction! And perhaps with good reason, for he died of typhus a year after its completion and is buried on its grounds along with a wife and three sons.

This does show the outside colors much better though I expect the outside is probably due for a cleaning. Interesting tale...I do hope they waited for the wife and three sons to pass away of natural causes!

One super structure Roxy... One can only express awe looking at something so magnificent. What a mind it took to design and construct this building is beyond me.

Fantastic shot of a fantastic structure & thanks for the nod. Now, if you can just eliminate the tourists... I'm just teasing about the tourists, of course, but I recently read about an actual iPhone app called Tourist Eraser. The way it works is that you take several pictures of a subject (like a building, for example) & the app detects what has changed or moved from one frame to another & eliminates it to reveal what is behind it. Pretty clever & I suspect we will start to see it either in Photoshop as an automate photomerge feature or plugin or perhaps even as a feature built into cameras...

Makes me think of my Mom, she really wanted a cabin in the Mountains and we built her one. She was able to enjoy it for about 15 years before passing, now the family owns it. I like the looks of this building.

This graduated structure is a feast for the eyes. With its many domes, it looks like a city in a city. Sensational architecture. Class pic!!! (And Photosynthesis has not one tree in sight.)

A tourist eraser.. yes that would be nice:) I once had to take out nearly 90 persons to have a clear pic..not hard but a royal pain in the wazooo. You got a beautiful strong pic there...and I am glad for once to see it without trees..Though I admit I am starting to miss the little kitty that was following you around:)
