Description

This is for Photosynthesis who requested a picture of the Blue Mosque without trees. That is only possible from the inner courtyard as we see here. One of the external marvels of the Blue Mosque, and indeed something that it is famous for, is this cascade of domes. You can see how the domes are all rich with windows. This makes the interior bright with natural lighting but also gives some wonderful shadow effects too. There is no other Ottoman mosque that is so richly constructed and is a tribute to the genius of its designer Sedefkâr Mehmet Ağa. The young sultan Ahmed I, a dynamic if not overly successful leader, was so impatient to have the mosque finished that he even actively participated in its construction! And perhaps with good reason, for he died of typhus a year after its completion and is buried on its grounds along with a wife and three sons.

How epic and grand this looks with domes cascading downwards. Great shot and such a beautiful structure.

Amazing building and capture. But a sad story behind it.
