Troubling News
Andaerean enters the study and his mother is not at all herself. Once he is in reaching distance, she cautiously takes his hand in hers.
'I have troubling news, my son. Your father had passed.' She begins. 'He's passed and he kept no will. He thought the idea of it was too depressing.' She shakes her head and a something of a sarcastic smile flashes across her face for an instant. 'By default this estate and all the money he left behind goes to the first son--now listen to me very carefully, my dearest'. She pauses and finds it difficult to say the next few words.
Andaerean remains silent, only looking to his mother, anticipating what's to be said.
'You are not the eldest. You have an older brother'. Again she pauses, looking up at him, attempting to judge how he was taking it.
Andaerean looks neither pleased nor disappointed. Silence becomes him.
'I have one last thing to tell you, my love. He's your twin. His name is Ettrian and he is your twin brother.'
After what seems like an hour, though it has only been seconds, he speaks, or tries to. His mouth opens and closes, but he says nothing. Nothing.
'I called him home so we should be expecting him tonight or tomorrow, or the day after that'.
'Will there be a funeral?' At last, he says something.
'Yes, of course. His body is but a days away'.
Solemnly, Andaerean slips his hand from his mother's and walks over to a desk. There he sits and proceeds to go through the papers that were scattered across it. 'I will see to the burial arrangements and notifying our extended family assuming you've not already done it, correct?'
Anthemius nods. 'My son, you don't have to do this by--'
He cuts her off. 'The burden is heavy for us both, Mother. I will manage and when -Ettrian- comes, he can take over.' He says with a measurable amount of bitterness.
'I'm sorry.' She says. What else could she say? 'I'm so very sorry'.
He shakes his head, refusing to look away from the papers. 'It is fine.' But it wasn't, it really wasn't...

Wow, do I love your technique of illustration or what. Simply gorgeous. The close in camera work gives excellent focus to the characters and the rich set is scrumptuous. This story just draws you in, very well written.
