Hello All!
This shot was taken at the end of September at Top Withens, aka Wuthering Heights, on the bleak moorland above the village of Haworth, which is famous for its strong Bronte family connections, in West Yorkshire.
We had taken the longer, and more difficult, route from the village on a 4 mile mud-caked hike across the moorland to get to Top Withens, which are the derelict ruins of a farmhouse on top of the highest point of the moor that Emily Bronte based her well known book Wuthering Heights on.
There is a plaque on the other side of the building which reads;
"Top Withens. This farmhouse has been associated with "Wuthering Heights", the Earnshaw home in Emily Bronte's novel. The buildings, even when complete bore no resemblance to the house she described, but the situation may have been in her mind when she wrote of the moorland setting of the heights".
This photo is a blend of four differently exposed images from the same RAW file to show what the eye would see as if you were actually there. I have used dodge and burn in the foreground to show the details a little better and also boosted the saturation because of the poor colour and lighting due to bad weather.

'Wuthering' being a significant provincial adjective, descriptive of the atmospheric tumult to which its station is exposed in stormy weather. Pure, bracing ventilation they must have up there at all times, indeed; one may guess that the power of the north wind blowing over the edge, by the excessive slant of a few stunted furs at the end of the house; and by a range of gaunt thorns all stretching their limbs one way, as if craving alms of the sun".

This is a stunning addition to this delightful series. Just shows there is no bad weather for photography and in fact the worse the weather often the better it is! Great job of image stacking to show the detail. I wonder how it would look with an HDR process? Did that bit of bright sky really appear over the building? It is really unique and striking.

It is always a pleasure to see the new photographs you post.:) And you really seem to have a gift with "old school" HDR -HDR that is handmade. On my Lumix TZ-18 I have the high dynamic range option/filter available among its options: it works perfectly whenever I use it ;p I've been shooting like crazy since I bought my 3 new cameras (new Lumix TZ-18, the infrared Bell'n Howell AND my beautiful and stunning Nikon D3100!) I'm so totally in love with them and photography in general! Anyway, once again you achieved an impressive and expressive work here, congrats!!:) Eli

Hi Carl, For no good reason I've been missing your wonderful gallery. It looks to me like we have some very similar landscape interests. I am shortly going to trade up in my camera gear moving from Olympus DSLRs to a Canon full-frame DSLR. Not only do I really like your subject, composition and postwork but appreciate that you've told us what you've done here. Great job and I'll be more faithful with my comments in the future:)
