Hello All!
This shot was taken about 3 weeks ago at Top Withens aka Wuthering Heights, on the bleak moorland above the village of Haworth, which is famous for its strong Bronte family connections, in West Yorkshire.
We had taken the longer, and more difficult, route from the village on a 4 mile mud-caked hike across the moorland to get to Top Withens, which are the derelict ruins of a farmhouse on top of the highest point of the moor that Emily Bronte based her well known book Wuthering Heights on.
The plaque just visible on the bottom-right of the building reads;
"Top Withens. This farmhouse has been associated with "Wuthering Heights", the Earnshaw home in Emily Bronte's novel. The buildings, even when complete bore no resemblance to the house she described, but the situation may have been in her mind when she wrote of the moorland setting of the heights".
This is not a cropped photo but a stitch of 6 portrait shots through 90 degrees of the landscape and also a blend of 4 differently exposed images of the RAW files (therefore made up of 24 individual images). I decided to convert to b/w because of horrible weather conditions and poor colour whilst there. I have used a touch of dodge and burn as well as slight alteration of curves in photoshop.

'Wuthering' being a significant provincial adjective, descriptive of the atmospheric tumult to which its station is exposed in stormy weather. Pure, bracing ventilation they must have up there at all times, indeed; one may guess that the power of the north wind blowing over the edge, by the excessive slant of a few stunted furs at the end of the house; and by a range of gaunt thorns all stretching their limbs one way, as if craving alms of the sun".

All that postwork was totally and utterly worth it. Can absolutely see this one hanging in a photostudio gallery where I am sure it would attract a very reasonable price. The black and white was a smashing choice for the bleak scene. Thank you for illustrating this famous landscape with so much class.

I remember visiting this wild and wonderful place some years ago, your intro is very interesting explaining all about the area and the connection to Jane Bronte. As for the photo it is surely such an amazing and dramatic landscape, and I was captivated on your description of how you came up with the finished look.
