Description
This unknown castle perched on a cliff stands guard the entrance of the valley along the river Adige between Trento and Rovereto. Since neolithic times this has been a north-south highway(and viceversa). It connected the powerful fortified villages south of Verona and the Garda Lake pile dwellings with the copper mines of Trento and, beyond the Alps, Austria. The Salt Route as well as a most important branch of the Amber Route from the Baltic Sea passed through here. Bronze swords and daggers made of Trento copper and manufactured in Peschiera (Lake Garda)'s workshops were found among the prestige goods in the rich tombs of Crete and Mycene, among the others. You can understand that controlling the passage of people and goods along this valley, and asking for a right of crossing duty, was of the utmost importance. This route is still one of the main roads connecting Northern Europe with the Eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean Seas.
Thanks for your kind comments.

Sandra, this castle is truly a sight to behold. This really is a fascinating castle, and one I would love to learn more about. Love this setting with it perched on the cliff and all its glory. Now let me compliment you on doing a fabulous job as always on your presentation. Despite not knowing much about the castle you made this an exciting journey for all of us with your detailed description of the surrounding area. That is but another illustration of why I am a huge admirer of you and your gallery.
