Description

Today I attended the ceremony for my son's Graduation as a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Heritage Conservation. These proceedings are nothing if not tedious, so I entertained myself till his special moment by a bit of long-distance candid snapping. I am pleased with this..these poor devils have a whole week of it! We are all proud of Mark: he was never academic at school and this is a great achievement for a Granddad! My TZ18 on 16X zoom at a very high ISO. Unfortunately i forgot to change the ISO afterwards for the portraits so they are grainy!!

Oh bother, what a grim, dour crew we have sitting up on the platform, seemingly bored stiff with the whole routine. Anyway, heartfelt congratulations to your son on his belated graduation.

Something about the lighting here makes me think of Old Masters' paintings. Excellent candid shot, Andrea!

I love this! The postwork and lighting really give it a painted look and add personality to each face. They do look bored, but are very interesting to study. There are slight variations that are fun to think about. The lady on the far left has decided what to do about her disobedient son, and judging from her slight, satisfied smile, he is not going to like it. The man sitting to her left is wondering why the professor currently speaking still has a job, and how much longer he is going to speak such twaddle. The person who can barely be seen behind him is not bored at all. While he pretends to be reading the pamphlet on the graduating seniors, he is really reading a Terry Pratchett paperback. His only problem is being sure not to chuckle too loudly. The lady seen over his right shoulder has pasted a slight smile on her face and left her body. She is currently astroplaning over the English Channel. The lady on her left is very definitely in her body and has just understood words spoken to her by a colleague. They were not complimentary. The man in the front is considering that a fancy blue robe, gold tassels, and an honorary seat in the front, are all very well but a back seat and a good book would be better. The man over his left shoulder has truly reached the highest stage of boredom. He has reached the "Dear God, just kill me now" stage. For his sake, I hope the graduation ceremonies are nearing an end. Congratulations to Mark!
