Description
This year I wanted to pay tribute to the Men and Ships of the "Silent Service"...
USS Trigger SS-237, Gato Class
Crew: 60 Officers and Men
Commissioned: Jan 30/42
Lost: Mar 28/45 Sunk with all hands
U-99 Type VIIB U-Boat

Submarine warfare in all it's history requires (I think) more bravery than in any other armed service. You are in a small boat, often on your own, and with no friends to come to your aid once you get caught, usually in enemy seas.
Through a Civil War, 2 World Wars, and the Cold War, 100's of thousands of men have sailed beneath the waves and been lost in the services of all our countries... They often lie forgotten on the ocean floor, their final fate noted simply as "Missing, Presumed Lost"...
US Submarine Losses (WW2)
52 Submarines
3,505 Officers and Men
British Commonwealth Losses (WW2)
73 Submarines
2,000 Officers and Men
German Losses (WW2)
783 Submarines
30,000 Officers and Men
Japanese Losses (WW2)
128 Submarines
12,032 Officers and Men

Wow, those are some really nice models. I like that you include the human toll, too often discussions of war forget the human price.

I should have noted... the U99 is Bazze's, the USS Trigger is my own work...

Nice job! Nice comment on the service!

Indeed...I toured a submarine once. The guide informed us that those applying for such service (today, at least) undergo rigorous psychological evaluations - and anyone who wants out gets a transfer to a surface ship pretty readily.
