Description

The driver of this car (not a woman) decided to take a chance through this flood near my home on Wednesday. Just a few metres more and his car spluttered to a halt and he had to be towed out. Zoom will enlarge the pic.

The water isn't too deep. He could have made it but you can see he's making the classical mistake. The fear of getting caught overwhelms the brain and makes you go faster when what you need to do is to go slower. He is making a bow wave that the car is then driving into and the fan blades will wash the water up over the engine disabling the spark plugs and killing the engine. If he went slower, the water is clearly not deep enough for the fan to touch it.

Some folks with money ( I said some not the majority)believe they are immune from stupidity....Just my observation...And knowing how expensive an Audi can be after it's flooded out that he's in for a sticker shock for his decision to play boat captain..

We also have a phrase here, just flipped from the one bakapo mentioned; "Turn around, don't drown." San Antonio is hilly and any time we have heavy rains, we have flash flooding. Creeks rise where there was just a dry bed and low points become fast flowing rivers. All over the city, barriers (similar to those at railway crossings) come down, and all over the city idiots drive around them and get caught in fast flowing currents. They are now subject to the cost of their rescue if they go around a barrier (assuming they survive of course.) Great capture and totally apt title!
