Description

These are houses that reproduce those of Oetzi's village in Senales Valley during the Neolithic/ Copper Age. Inside they are empty, but when Oetzi was alive they hosted a hollow central fireplace in the dirt floor and a number of shelves hosting jugs, pitchers, bowls etc. and sleeping areas. It's not sure that the Iceman lived in Val Senales, however, we are sure that he crossed part of the valley, entering in Val Tisa and died on the Tisa Ridge.Hop hornbeam pollen was found in Oetzi's body (Ostra carpinifoglia). This plant hates ice and grows to the south of the alpine peaks. Moss which was found close to the Iceman's body and clothes grew only to the south of the Alps and certainly not at high altitude. And to top it off, their shoes were superior to ours...something about the moss they used as stuffing, instead of socks! I love this photograph and the swanky lodgings. It's funny how we like to think of ourselves as so advanced and sophisticated, but in all honesty, we haven't changed all that much from our stone/copper/bronze/dirty-muddy-age ancestors. I somehow think that THEY were more sophisticated than us in some areas. We have iPods, but can we start a warm fire? I love the details in this shot, and the colors are stunning! This is a wonderful glimpse back in time. I'd love to see glimpses of copper-age life performed by enthusiastic reenactors. That would be fun!
