Description
No doubt remembered very fondly by the "thousands" of airmen downed in the briney deep, "Dumbo" as it was referred to by many of the craft's air rescue crews, the Consolidated PBY Catalina was truly a welcome sight overhead.
I started this before I completed "Lucky Day" and the long render time ahead was instrumental in its being placed on the shelf. Inspired by Briney's (any reference to "the deep" is purely coincidental) excellent Cat renders, I thought I would augment the tribute by finishing this piece.

Hey Bill, this looks wonderful as always, a real feel for the plane in the air moving, nice smoke and I like the lean of the ship coming in. When you have a chance, move up to Vue 11, I think with your talent you will find the new features and SPEED! interesting.

Another fine model gets 'steelrazer'ed' :-) and you do it so well! Nice companion piece to 'Lucky Day'....both sides of the coin, so to speak. The PBY 'a welcome sight overhead'...that has to be the understatement of the year :-) 10/10+

Dear old Catalinas....they looked grand taking off in San Diego Harbor, summer of 1966... Fine work!

Well done! Now tell the guy to get in the raft and off the sinking piece of metal!
Briney
Excellent scene and postwork! Remember though... when that Cat hits a bombie while landing, some hard-working PT boat crew has probably got to come along and take everyone home!
