Description
My first serious attempt at imaging Jupiter. Shot close to its opposition on December 3rd. We are now hurtling apart from each other and will be closest again in January 2014.
As Jupiter rotates very fast (once per 10 hours) I was very happy to get the Great Red Spot.
Image details:
Canon 5D MkII, 180mm Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope.
Focal length 10,800mm. (Yes, ten metres!!)
Camera sensor size 24mm x 36mm, diagonal 43.54mm.
Effective magnification 10800mm / 43.54mm = 248x.
F60.
A laptop, some cables and some software. How did Copernicus manage without????
Thanks for looking and any comments you may wish to leave.
~Steve~
P.S. just set up all my gear to have a go at photographing M31 (Andromeda), gone back outside again & it's clouded over.... Hmmmmmphhh.

This is wonderful! I've never seen a better one except for those done by very advanced labs or equipment that cost millions! Give yourself three pats on the back for me!

Awesome picture! I hope to shoot next week if it is clear.

I look forward to seeing photographs of faint fuzzies as we call them here. Although Andromeda of course is not so faint and easily seen in binos. I have an 8" dob myself, strictly looking as it has no drive and no control except where I point her with star charts.

Amazing!

Don't ya just hate those clouds? I set up 2 nights ago, got about 10 mins of viewing in and it clouded over without getting a single shot... very nicely done. Always something interesting going on with Jupiter.
