Description
By request, thank you to all - who did! :)
(BTW # 3 is Jeff, with our neighbours dog, an Irish Wolfhound)
***
These are the artist's own words:
# 1 - 'A CODE INTO IT' (Helidon sandstone)
Approaching from a distance, walking around the sculpture, you see in the middle, there are carved in a number of patterns, getting changed into a bar code at the top of it.
# 2 - 'WOOF 2' (waxed mild steel)
I made Woof as a tribute to our dog, Prosciutto. Prosciutto lived to be over 17 years old and had been blind for many years before she died. Woof is an attempt to simplify and express the essence of being a dog.
# 3 - 'A PEACEFUL MOMENT' (Cypress, sandstone, epoxy resin)
Standing on the shore at the beach, looking across the ocean, considering the swell, tide and wind, watching a child's delight at finding a crab or jumping a wave, feeling the white wash around your ankles, listening to the hiss as the wave rolls back into the ocean. Forgetting for a moment the stresses of life, picking up a smooth and flat rock, studying it then throwing it just right and watching it skip effortlessly across the water - a moment of peace.
# 4 - 'FIGURES IN THE LANDSCAPE' (Marine grade stainless steel)
This is part of a series of abstracted figurative sculptures using a single line to create 3D forms. The artwork investigates the historical roots and influences of sculptural form in the landscape and considers the effect on human presence has on the landscape. The figure is deliberately abstracted as a way of linking to the present, past and future and future inhabitants and creating a constantly changing visual and physical interaction.
# 5 - 'AMMONITE III' (Steel and two-pack enamel)
Ammonite III is a poignant muse for exploration of the past and present as this prehistoric being is understood to be an example of mass extinction due to global climate change.
My work presents the hopeful proposition that it is possible to rework old material, to learn from the past in order to make something new, but there is also something ironic in the use of material and form. The past while reworked over, made smooth, coherent: instead, it asserts and reinserts itself.
# 6 - 'ESPRIT DE MER' (SEA SPIRIT) - (Bronze)
'Esprit de Mer' belongs to the sea. From the beginnings this sculpture (that is the sketches) I conceptualized everything but the face of the woman. But once I started modeling the clay, the face just took on a life of it's own and became real enough to keep me wondering: "Who are you?"
With this work I have sought to evoke ceaseless moment - the ebb and flow of water and the hypnotic motion of sea grasses, where the woman moves gently and easily as one with her watery environment.

A talented bunch but I couldn't help thinking another name for 'A Peaceful Moment' would be 'Spare Change?'

Oooooohh! I like the ammonite best. It will go so nicely with the sea urchins I chose the other day! :) More? Yes? More would be good. :D

A fantastic exhibition of great artists. I like that you have added to the thoughts of the artists. I hated it in school has always been, when the teacher asked, "What the artist wants us to say?" Intuitively I like best of the Ammonite. Forgotten world and the present are linked. (Where me here is not necessarily the climate change comes in the head.) And the material is very well chosen. An iron beauty with a touch of pearl...a very good chance of survival. The aesthetics of shape, lines, and design inspire my imagination. By the way, the two buddies are on picture 3 ... cool! Cheers...Julchen

The complexity and appearance of #5 moves me most, but the simplicity of your piece and its success at conveying the intended spirit would drive me to pick it or #5 as my primary choice. Nice collage and yes, I'd like to see more!

Fabulous to explore this great collage and your presentation of it, Britti:). It's amazing how all are such different, but all also splendid in different ways. So again it's difficult to chose a favorite. I go for that face, and for that big green shell. Many compliments to the photographer, anyway :D. And give Jeff a hug from me, please!

Another super collage and #5-'AMMONITE III' is my favorite in this group and I would pick it over 'Mozzie' from the first group.
