Next image in my new series. Here is one of the main settlements of Tarakina IV. The place that Callie now calls home. Tarakina IV is a very new colony with only ~10,000 new settlers living on a planet that has one and a half times the size of earth. About 60% are covered in ocean, but the land masses are still enormous. The settlement shown here is New Atlantica with about 700 inhabitants it is the main government place, the home base for the colonial marines which provide security and police service, and the science center of the colony. The rest of the population lives in 7 other settlements similar to this one as well as in several smaller homesteads and corporate mining/exploration centers. The Tarakina system is 47 light years from our sun. Travel between the home world and here takes about three years by colony ship or freighter. The fastest military ships and messenger ship can do the trip in about 6 months. This is also the fastest time to relay messages between the worlds. Most of the colonists live in the buildings in the front right of the image. Behind that are the bio-domes that provide food for the population (in addition to indoor algae growths facilities). The biochemistry of the local life forms is slightly different than ours and it is not completely clear at this time if and how they can be used as food sources.
