Description

I went to Grass Valley, Ca to spend Christmas with my son. The route there is straight across Highway 20, the middle part of which borders Clear Lake. This is a huge contradiction in terms; there's nothing clear about this lake. Not only is it always brown and murky, it's highly contaminated with mercury from local mine tailings. The Wiki info about it says that pregnant women should eat a very limited amount of fish from this lake. In the summer, parts of it stink to high heavens. It has quite a history, but I'll let you read about it on your own. Worth doing if you're interested. Another fact is the road is so close to the lake that as you drive you're almost eye level to the surface. That's Mt Konocti in the background, a long dormant volcano. More Wiki info if you want!!

We spent one night in the motorhome at an RV park at the northwest end of Clear Lake in a little town called Nice. We were right across the street from the lake. It was actually very pretty that day! I took a bunch of pictures. Thanks for reminding me ... I think I may have posted one picture from there, and I got a lot of ... well ... Nice ones! LOL!
