Description

Still in Island In The Sky, this is Mesa Arch. I wasn't able to get a clean shot of the entire arch without tourists in them, but I was able to get this partial view. I might go back at some point & Photoshop the tourists out of one of the other photos, but honestly, I have several photos of some dramatic arches I took at Arches National Park the next day that are probably more interesting than this arch... Please zoom

Nice, I like the three levels of zig zag leading lines. I don't quite recall the rocks really being that vibrant a red; these have had a bit of an HDR boost?

Roxy, you can assume that most of my photos have undergone some HDR post-processing, because I've incorporated it into my standard workflow & there haven't been many photos that didn't benefit from it (IMHO, of course). I know there are some folks who don't like HDR at all (I know you're not one of them), either for aesthetic or philosophical reasons, but that's the way it goes. As Ricky Nelson once said, "ya can't please everyone, so ya got to please yourself"...

When I was a kid my grandparents went to Arches and sent back postcards. (Remember when people did that?) That was my first clue that there were things like this on the planet. I like the way you've framed the valley within this arch. Good place to stand! :)

Arches is on my list of places to visit for sure! This is a great shot btw. I hear ya about the tourist... might think of taking a few shots from a tripod in the same spot over about 15-30 mins so you have people moving around and gives you a good set of pics to clone/erase people out of. Very nice capture man. Great color of nature.

NightGallery: This is in Canyonlands, not Arches. Thanks for the idea about eliminating tourists, but two problems for me - I generally don't carry a tripod with me & I rarely would want to hang around for half an hour in one spot. I do sometimes use the Photoshop Healing, Spot Healing & Patch tools to eliminate tourists, though & I have an example of that from Arches that I will post soon.

It is a super view from up there and they told me that the spire out there was the "washer women".
