I first created an artwork similar to this in 2009 for the graphic novel I created called Echoes of Darkness that was based on the first two Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic video games. The original purpose of this artwork was to be the novel's cover but since it was never printed, I never had need for a cover. I've since changed the character (I've no idea right now where my original character files are for the stuff I used in the novel) and a number of other things for this new artwork. I mainly recreated this one simply because I wanted to do the ligthtsaber effect again. Really. It's also just a piece I thought I could improve since my skills have greatly improved since the last 2011 version. The light setup is a combination of IDL and colored rim lights plus a specular and a faint blue fill light. The lightsaber blade uses IDL to project light onto the character. The "glow" of the lightsaber was created in postwork. The background was also added in postwork using a mask. Other than a few adjustment layers and a texture overlay or two, I didn't do too much postwork with this one. Thank you to all who comment, favorite, and rate this artwork!
