Description

...back on 28 December Rob (debbielove) posted the last Comet 4C to fly anywhere in the world. The Comet was British built and the first jet airliner in the world. A very proud accomplishment. ...so here Rob is a beautifully restored Comet 4C cockpit in what is believed to be the last Comet anywhere in the Americas (yes, North, Central and South). ...this Comet is the very first Comet model 4C produced and was first flown on October 31, 1959. It was used for subsequent flight testing by De Havilland. It then was flown by Mexicana Airlines for about 20 years. ...today it is in the Boeing Restoration Center at Paine Field, Washington. It is destined eventually for the Boeing Museum of Flight in Seattle. However, don't hold your breath, there is a lot of work to be done and all the workers are volunteers who have already been working on this labor of love for over 15 years. ...Just thought you'd like this for a keepsake Rob. :) A ZOOM is a must for detail.

Oooh! Dials, knobs, doohickies, thingamagigs, and stuff...and it's all terribly important if one intends to keep all of that metal, cargo, and those human sorts of people aloft! This tickles my muse, because I often look at photos of actual airplane cockpits (or the interiors of submarines) for the stories I write that involve spaceships. It's kinda sad that I haven't been writing too many spaceship stories though. Oh well. Still, this is a brilliant photograph, and I love the nice details that are visible throughout. Wonderful and a great dedication too!

Wow! Off we go into the wild blue yonder! I hope the auto pilot is on. :P Excellent image, and just about the most fun you can have in a cockpit!

This is so COOL! I thank you for Dedication Bill :-) You know if you took away the padding, it could a WW2 bomber! A brilliant accomplishment, once they'd got it right! Thanks again... Rob

That is a LOT of little switches and gauges...I'm glad that I don't have to remember what they are all for! Wonderful capture, Bill!

Nigh onto a kaleidoscopic image in this fabulous capture of the countless dials, gauges, switches, et al, Bill. An apt choice for a BD dedication to Rob.

Great shot Bill! Didn't some of the early model Comets disintegrated over the Mediterraneans? Square windows allowed cracks in the fuselage?
