Description

Euonymus europaeus, the Spindle tree, has white or pale-yellow wood which was formerly used for making spindles, knitting needles and skewers. The branches are 4-angled when young, getting more corky as they get older. They grow on the edges of woodland and prefer a lime rich soil. This one is growing above Alum Chine, Bournemouth. I find different barks fascinating!

However are you always such an amazing walking human encyclopedia about so many things Andrea? Great shot, and I assume post work for the Bokeh effect as well! I seem to recall you once stated that you were once a teacher beyond your art/photo classes of today... if so what did you teach? You never fail to amaze in all your presentations!

The ranger at Juanita Bay was telling me he'd found one in the woods there, and had put a protective line around it. The flowers were very lovely! I never saw it as big as this. What an interesting shape it takes!

Fantastic shot of the fascinating twig, Andrea, a species I never even knew existed. I thought all spindles were artificially created from a dowel on a lathe, and now I discover to the contrary.

superb! love how these brances look. we have a hedge maple .. which had branches somewhat like this when we first bought it and planted it in our yard. Now almost 30 years later, it doesn't seem to have them anymore, but I still love this tree.
