Description

Just a quick one today boys 'n' girls..my boss and also the company owner have dropped me in it by arriving from Aussie tonight..remains to be seen what is all behind this rush visit.. so I need my beauty sleep. Anyway, I digress.. one advantage of living in Cockle Bay is that it only a few hundred metres west of the main flightline to Auckland City 'proper' from Ardmore, which is where many of NZ's classic warbirds are based. Often have classics passing overhead, though they are usually Harvards and a DC3. Occasionaly the P51 , Spitfire, and P40 come out to play, but they are too damn quick to capture! This is a montage of shots of KA114.. currently the worlds only flying Mosquito, and were taken from my front deck at home this last Saturday as it did a beat up over our 'burb'for about 5 minutes. Missed the best shots (closest)as by the time I realised what was going on, grabbed the camera and cranked it up, the Mossie was circuiting further away. She did several loops around the area, waiting for a photo ship to trundle it's way out I presume, as soon as a single engined buzz box appeared, the Mossie pulled in behind and the pair headed out towards the city. The sound was something else.. brought shivers up me back ;o) Nothing spectacular as it was sooo impromptu, and definitely not up to your standards Rob, but I do like the wartime feel to the montage. Hope everyone is having a good start to the week!

Now that's odd. You do all those pin-ups with cars and when you use a title like "Fast and Furious" (which is is a film all about fast cars!!) you stick it on pictures of an aeroplane!! LOL! Nice shots!

It must be great to be able to view all of those amazing planes... Nothing other than a well built Harley can get me as worked up as these things. Thanks for sharing!

Rarest of the rare. Our home is about three miles away from an airfield with dozens of warbirds...here we know the sound of our favorite B-25 that flys frequently. And I've done the exact same thing...rush outside and snap away. I am always left with a feeling that I absolutely have got to spend money for a bigger zoom!

Great captures. I live right next to the approach/departure pattern of Glendale Municipal Airport. Occasionally I hear a WW II aircraft approach (by the time I hear it is usually over my house), and by the time I am outside it has disappeared behind another house.

It's Really shame!!...
