Description

Franco is a former teacher of art from Vicenza, and currently makes demonstrations in Archaeoparks and museums. He makes demostrations of spinning and weaving with looms he has manufactured using old tools such as the draw knife. He also makes demo of melting and manufacturing copper and bronze tools and weapons according to prehistoric technology. The spindles I already posted as well as the ones you see here are his, bought all over the world where artisans still work their ancient crafts. In truth women were the weavers, at least until the Middle Ages, when men became weavers organized in powerful guilds, and left home waving to women. The prehistoric lady of the house wove prestige fabrics, and could reach considerable fame and wealth with it. Here you can see two upright looms, one for fabrics 60 cm. large, and a smaller loom for belts and decorative strips. There is a finger weaving loom on the left and a belt loom for card or tablet weaving on the right. They were also used to manufacture belts, strips, garters, etc. Thanks for your kind comments.

Sandra, this is a magnificent collage of this great artist. I am so thrilled you decided to share some more of his work with us as well as more history behind the man. What a thrill it would be to sit in on one of his demonstrations, to watch these ancient arts practiced once again. Franco, Is beyond impressive to be so well-versed in so many of these ancient arts. This is another fine example of why I love your gallery so much my friend. Because you provide so many of us the opportunity to see fascinating people and places that would otherwise not be presented to us.
