Description

My Orange-winged Amazon parrot. I've had him at least 30 years, possible a bit more, since he was rejected by his mum as a mere squab and was hand-fed by the breeder. He is NOT an import but was hatched less than 5 miles away. In hind-sight I should prefer not to keep caged birds, but Byron is perfctly happy and healthy as long as he has a budgie in the same room. He's been through a few of those, and when I tried him without, when the last but one died, he was absolutely miserable. He DID NOT WANT his picture taken today! Hah! I nearly had Tizzie snatched out of my hand! Todays advice: never do tongue-kisses with a parrot who's been eating chillies.

He's adorable. I have had a lot of birds in my lifetime, now down to one Lovebird and hope to not get anymore.

He is adorable! My one son bought a baby a couple of years back but then did not have enough time to spend with him - so bird became very noisy and naughty. He subsequently gave him to a retired couple who loves him and he is like a child in their home! This is a gorgeous image!

Wow I never knew you had a bird too! Byron is very handsome. My house is located in a bird sanctuary but since the last major hurricanes I have not seen any Parrots return. I miss their added beauty and color added to the mix of things around here. My neighbor had an Amazon named "Julio" but returned him to the man who had given it too him when after a year he would not learn English or bond with anyone in the household. Most of the local menagerie are far bigger than my Maltese Dog Mickey. Mickey loves all the big birds however, he never tries to chase them and they all seem to really like each other. We had birds all the while I was growing up and they all got along famously with both the dogs and even the cats! Does Byron talk and know the dogs by name?

In reply toTim, Byron doesn't do a lot of English, but I understand Parrot perfectly. He does a stunning toy poodle bark, and very convincing emergency services . He has also perfected car crash sounds, but in the winter the double glazing cuts out the road noises and he seems to do less accidents! He loves John Williams music and gets very excited, executing little dances along his perches.

Byron sounds to give you a lot of pleasure and he is certainly a great age. This is a wonderful capture of him he looks to be full of life and fun. I'm chuckling over the noises he makes and I bet they sound very real too. Thank you for sharing him with us all.

I have a friend who had a Macaw many years ago. (He eventually gave it to a breeder, because Macaws mate for life and the bird needed a hubby.) Whenever the phone rang, Ariel would say, "hello?" in my friend's voice. My friend got married, and his new wife had a cat. Ariel learned to call the cat in Robin's voice. (Ariel was about the same size as the cat!) I leave the rest to your imagination. Byron looks like a fun guy to have around!

You fed the parrot chilis? Byron has somewhat of a nonplused expression on his face, probably in response to having his picture taken. And his beak could do with a good scraping and polishing. Other than that, cool color blends and textures in this foto, Andrea.

We've had a couple of birds, adopted, so to speak. One was a small Beebee parrot (I don't know if that is correct, but that is what we were told it was) which seemed to like me, until it met my then boyfriend (who became my hubby). It fell in love with hubby, and would not allow me anywhere near. If I came too close, it attacked me. It would climb inside hubby's shirt and preen his chest hairs and croon to him. When hubby wasn't around, it was fine with me. But I knew my place, LOL. Bebe was oldish when he came to us, having been with 3 other families that we knew of. A wonderful photo of Byron, he sounds like a very happy bird, and a bit of a character. I once had a scarlet macaw climb up my arm, and tongue kiss me. I thought sure my lips would be gone .. but it was very gentle but forceful, giggles.

Does he recite poetry? He doesn't look much like a lord but he is a very handsome fellow. As for scraping and polishing the beak, good luck getting him to sit still for that.

He is really colorful! I cannot imagine 'French kissing' a parrot, so to speak, LOL. More power to you. My friend Jack had one for over 38 years before the bird died and he now has another but only because his daughter promised to take him when Jack dies.

Wonderful! Such a handsome person! I love birds, especially since they're a bit more dinosaur-like than originally anticipated. I've never kept companion birds, but I love seeing them. Oh, and did you know that contemporary science has taught us that the term "bird brain" is probably less insulting than originally thought? It's been proven, fairly recently, that birds with bird brains are actually quite smart. HA! Leave it to science to state the obvious! I love the pattern on his beak and such a brilliant, clever eye. Does he show affection by regurgitating? A friend of mine had a bird that always nibbled one's finger and...um...fed the person in question. This is the same friend with the ominous spitting octopus, but that's a tale for another post.
