My mother, who is very ill, is half American Indian. I did this for her. The buffalo, or bison, signifies life and abundance--that one need not struggle to survive. Among many American Indians, the white buffalo is especially sacred--the most sacred thing you can ever encounter. It signifies purity, unity among all men and tribes of the earth, and, most importantly, hope. I nearly called this "good dreams only, no bad dreams allowed" because for years that is how my mother tucked my nieces into bed, pointing to the dreamcatchers over their heads.
