Description
The top picture is of Tiger Balm Gardens in Hong Kong. Tiger Balm Gardens are now all over Asia and are like Disney Worlds. The bottom picture is of a shanty town that poor people have built on a hill side. On the tour, the bus stopped next to a shanty town next to the road. The tour guide said that it used to be a stream where people parked their boats and lived on them. We were looking at the fourth or fifth level of shacks that were built on the original boats. People still lived in the different levels of shacks and boats. I did not get a picture of that shanty town. These are pictures that I scanned in.

Interesting old photos. Both photos I know were taken at Causeway Bay Hong Kong Island because I lived right next to Tiger Balm Gardens when I was at young age. My mother (God bless her soul), took me there all the time to look at one particular wall mural sculpture as a reminder which descript the 18 horrific levels in Hell. Mostly gruesome tortures, punishments etc…when one had committed serious crimes before dead. Usually the cruelest one is at the bottom and rises up to Life level before Heaven. The Gardens still there but much smaller and not as tranquil as before because of the tourists. Now it is surrounding with tons of residential skyscrapers. The “shanty town” in the second photo was the illegal squatter huts built at the hillside just about half a mile across the Gardens. If you notice several US Navy sailors walking up the hill to the squatter huts were heading for prostitutes. About five US per head (It was quite a bit of money at that time in Hong Kong). Because that area was ran by Gangs, it also the place for some locals to do drugs, opium, live shows, gambling, etc…It was burned down (Either by accident or for obvious reasons) about 50 years ago and now the hill is coved by million Hong Kong dollars condos. Thanks for reading.
