Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Oh Ralphie - he looks so regal here! Love the color coded bandage... Yes - that vet bill is a tad stiff I would say but worth it for this lad!

Hope he recovers to his old self.

The portrait of a killer!! It looks like he's not too bothered.

He looks good - I am sure he has enjoyed all of the attention! Get well, Ralphie! Clive

Kind of reminds me of King Henry VIII...he has the look...and the right colors for royalty.

It's good to know he's doing ok Andrea!

Better keep him away from the Vixen Andrea. I am worried you will loose Ralphie. One can never be sure how the fight will end between dog and vixen. Superb capture Andrea. God Bless.

He looks so calm and serene! I can almost hear him say, 'It was in the winter of '13 when I met up with that fox...' and continuing to tell the fascinated listeners of his exploits...

Oh Dear, lovely pic.

Glad to see his eye is okay. Poor Ralphie's has to be more carful in the future

an imperious look from this wounded warrior

Perhaps you need to hire some beaters to go through your garden before the dogs go out and dislodge any unwelcome wildlife? Poor Ralphie, he does look quite proud of his expensive wounds! Veterinary costs are not much different from human medical costs, at least here.

Poor doggie, i hope he gets better! Nice portrait

Poor thing! If these foxes are numerous it would be cheaper to fence them out than the vet bills!

What a killer! We have foxes here too on the beach at night, but so far have never had a problem. Dingoes on the other hand............. ;)

If the leg wound is from Rosie it doesn't look like the little pregnant girl was able to put up much of a fight defending herself. I guess Ralphie is too old to be trained to just bark and scare them away. Too bad for everyone.

GREAT SHOT... AND NEXT TIME HE'LL BE MORE CAUTIOUS...
whaleman
It was a life and death struggle between them, too bad one had to die.
goodoleboy
Good shot of a rather stoic Ralphie. And, if you ignore the bandage and wounds, seemingly in no worse shape than before his encounter with the fox. I wonder, in his canine mind, if he learned anything from that harrowing experience. Ironically, he looks like he's raring to go again.

I'm sure he'll heal up just fine ... he looks good. I like Denise's idea of hiring beaters! :)

A super photo of Ralphie and his colorful leg wrap. That was a close bite near his eye. You were both very lucky. Are you allowed to put out traps?

life is rough when one has such dedicated to a particular calling .. and still, Ralphie holds his head high.

Hope for a speedy recovery. Aloha
