Description

[best viewed full sized] (4 of 5) Hello All! This shot was taken three weeks ago in Marsden, West Yorkshire, which is a little town set on the Pennine moorland bordering Lancashire. This is a little further upstream from my previous upload - the area visible through the portal of the packhorse bridge. I did get some close-up shots of the massive cliff-hanging icicles (about 8 or 9 feet tall) on the upper right of the image but prefered them to be a feature showing the whole setting instead. The soil in this area is very rich in iron and clay which gives the water this unusual colour. This picture is composed of three differently exposed images of the same RAW file in order to add depth and detail rather than white-out snow and also to show the scene as it would look to the eye. A touch of dodge and burn was used to show a little more detail as well as a slight boost in saturation. Some clever cloning was also needed to take out the snow blots that were flying into the lens. Thanks for looking and any comments and critique are, as always, more than welcome and valued! Carl

Exquisite. The red pool gives a strong visual contrast to the almost grayscale landscape and gives a wonderful splash of dramatic color.

Dormant is what I am most mornings so it's nice to see what those who are willing to brave the elements can show us. This is a very impressive image. Looks like a frozen waterfall with a lovely pool of wine in the foreground. First class work.
