Description
The gentleman from the previous post turned out to be quite friendly and, like everyone we met, seemed genuinely puzzled why anyone would be interested in him. Here he is with his Mani wheel, the hand held version of the prayer wheel, working on some extra credit. A small weight is attached to the Mani with a short chain. A slight rotation of the wrist will rotate the wheel sending prayers heavenward for as long as the devotee’s stamina holds out.

I love this shot and the information you provide. What's even more amazing is that there are places in the world in which religion is something other than the shrill bashing of other people! I rather like this image for numerous reasons, the most overt of which is the raw humanity in it. I love the colors and the gentleman's slightly bemused expression. This is brilliant work.

I agree with Chipka. You don't see the people of Tibet slaughtering people in the name of religion... what does that tell you about the rest?

It just goes to show and prove my thoughts - that you don't have to belong or go to a church to pray - you can do that anywhere, as long as you believe somebody is listening - or be in tune with your surrounds and he seems to be ... what a marvellous image, very Zen - und so menschlich! BB

love chip's remarks, and andrea's follow up. And the others too. At first glance, this is a person in a private moment of devotion, but when we look closer, it reveals much more, as you tell us it will. More "journalism" again---I may be overdoing the word, but for me it intones immediacy, capturing the moment, etc. This man's gaze is a moment of very slight confusion at your presence---which you speak of in your comments---a tad of defensiveness---ie, why is he here, why is he looking at me---and yet not too much concern: As he's still in his seated posture, and hasn't budged. Two or three 'attitudes' all wrapped into one shot. The prayer beads and wheel are still his focus. And in the background, the high hills/mountains, and a bit of architecture. Another beautiful moment from you, composed with diagonals (the stones he's sitting on), and lots of blues. Restful, human, gentle. And revealing.
