Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

Wow, Marilyn, I counted rings out to 45 and quit:) There's something well over 100 here. Neat shot. Love the texture and the way the sea has bleached the wood white. Nicely done.

I wonder how many people are going to attempt to count the rings in this image. It's a gorgeous image, by the way, totally captivating, but I have to admit to counting 60 rings before stopping. I will probably attempt to count again. I also thought of the stories this stump could tell, but as to what the stories might be, I have to say, that I'm stumped. This is really great and I love the textures. I'm also quite amazed at how Nature works. Fingerprints carry the same sort of concentric, layered mystery tree rings carry. I love how that works, and I really like this image. It's also got me to thinking of how cool it would be if walls in homes could have this sort of texture. This is really great! I love the dark gap! I wanna know what happened there.

Interesting shot. Its playing tricks on my mind. Am I viewing from the top or viewing it from the bottom. I'm stumped! :) Aloha

I have the same OCD that Bill and Chip have. I made it to 70 rings, some fat years, some lean years. Rather hypnotic the way you've composed it.

Beautifully patterned and colored photo. I love the way you compose images of simple things to capture nature's art in such a pleasing manner.

Too lazy to count, but nice capture...

I'm struggling with this a bit because I believe it may be upside down. I have rotated the image 180 degrees and it appears more normal to me. Nice shot though! Many cameras have the capability of automatically righting an image through the use of a magnetic detecting (Hall-effect) sensor, but they frequently make mistakes when you are pointing your camera downwards because of the magnetic deviation between magnetic north and true north. It happens more often the closer you are to the north pole. I see it frequently because I am much further north of you in the center of Alberta.

Goodness ... That's an old tree, and looks to have had a rough life.
