Description

Eureeka! After being told the texture on my last image was too flat, I decided to play with the highlights feature in vue. Rather thatn using a plated texture like I had been, I decided to try and make the 'Mech too more like solid metal. This is still what I'd say is one of my best images to date. Most people would tell me they wanted foot prints in my images. With some simple boolean I was able to create those, and my friend convinced me to attempt to paint dust on the image. The model is once again Zakua's. It's the Cougar from the game MechWarrior4 which is based off of the BattleTech universe. All else is native Vue save for the dust painted on in photoshop. Comments, as always, are welcome.

The 'Mech is a Cougar. You can customize the load outs of these machines, but typically the Cougar is loaded with long range lasers and long range missiles. However, they often fight close range anyway.

I'm not a fan of Japanese mechas, but this works. [Rocks!] Question: Is there a consciuos pun between your User Name and the decision to do Combat Mechas?

Actually these are not japenese designs. The company that started BattleTech and the current owner are both American companies. Some of the original designs in BattleTech however were leased from a japanese company but are no longer used in that form. Actually, even then they were well modified to be less flashy. No pun intended with my name =-)

Are these 'Mech models publicly available, or do you have to have friends in high places? It might be nice to be able to fulfill my friends' demand for a full battle scene without having to make all the 'Mechs myself...

Many of the models are, Chris. This one and many others you will see that I used, especially in these earlier pics are not available. However one of the best graphics artists I've seen who also does BTech pictures has made all of his 'Mech models available as of recent. Head over to www.mektek.net then go to the downloads then Misc are to get them as well as some other good mech models.
