Description
Even though outsiders were invited as honored guests, the festival was, at its heart, for the local people and they were well represented. You could see them across the square waiting to pay their respects.

What strikes me from this super photo is how similar we all are in spite of our ethnic differences.

'Give me the simple life' - could be the caption to this street event, - it's a family affair, where ever you look - it must have been great, to have experienced these sort of gatherings and be part of the celebration, well observed and presented, it's all so natural ... BB I wonder, if that elderly couple (top left) are hungry, they seem to be staring at the hard-boiled egg?

This series on this ceremony is wonderful. Typical of your series-within-a-series. Lol on your previous upload, with the abbot screaming "Play Ball!" I'd LOVE to see that. (With some guy in the back shouting "get yer red hots here, get yer red hots". The play of Brahman, right? Just foolin' around with the cosmos...) This shot is stellar, Mark: After showing us various stages of this ceremony, each shot beautiful and revealing as the next, you give us a composition that any photojournalist could be proud of. All packed into an alcove of some kind (outdoors), you've got this wave of humanity, with all kinds of expression and disappointment and waiting and anticipation and quiet, and all the generations too. We expect the melange of colors and fabrics, and we get them here; and you've got a rivering motion from top to bottom, and it's splendid. Another of your captures of the moment that are filled with timelessness and history. Beautifully done, Mark. Once again.
