I am 58 years young, live in Johannesburg, South Africa and I'm a true product of my continent. I love the bush, the animals, sunshine, sunsets - oh well, anything to do with nature. I am unmarried and have three sons - 37, 33 and 30 respectively and three granddaugters aged 12, 6 and 4 respectively and obviously the light of my life! Photography has always been a passion and I have loved it since I can remember. I was still using a SLR camera and only switched to digital only in late 2007! My other passion is travel and I have been lucky enough to have travelled fairly widely. There are however still many, many places I would love to visit "one day." I am truly an amateur photographer and do it merely as a hobby. So please be gentle when you comment on my work. :-) Thank you Piet, my dear friend, for convincing me to place my work on Renderosity. You owe me one! Hugs, Carin xx

Wow! There's so much I love about this; besides the wonderful reflection, which would be a gorgeous shot on its own, you've got it framed by that line of double-arched ebb marks. Brilliant!!!!

Beautiful! I love the reflection, and those lovely undulating sandy curves are luscious. I like your quote ... it's quite thought provoking.

A very beautiful and creative photo and title. I agree, holding yourself together in times of despair is worth doing, for there is always hope and change with each new day. CC

This has nothing to do with this photo. This has everything to do with this photo. I'm re-reading the book, Helliconia Winter by Brian W. Aldiss...a fantastic, and under-rated science fiction writer. I'm re-reading "Winter" because I've just acquired the entire trilogy, Helliconia Spring, Helliconia Summer, and Helliconia Winter. The books were published in the 1980s (remember those?) and I'd only ever read the third one. What strikes me about this photograph is that it actually resembles some of the imagery in the Helliconia saga...only without humans and minotaur-like antagonists, who aren't actually bad guys so much as...well...um...kinda shaggy critters who occasionally get in the way and spread plagues. Well, it's more complicated than that, but what I'm getting at is that this image makes me think of the approach of winter on Helliconia (or the retreat of it, depending on your point of view.) I love the reflected sky in the water, which looks...to me, at least, like glacial ice retreating. The mood of this shot is fantastic, and I couldn't agree more with what you say. And, to put it in another way: "Hold on, because things get better...and when they do, you earn the right to say a hearty frak you to anybody who let hardship happen to you, but is very much interested in sharing your success. And, as you can guess, this is one more shot that's making me try to move South Africa and Namibia up on my list of places to get to ASAP!
