Description

Having stolen King Sendah Gyab's soul the demon Shelging turned his attention to the king's subjects. It was at this key moment that Guru Padmasambhava was called to save the king and his kingdom. Note: Several people have wondered what the music accompanying the festival sounded like. Below is a URL to a clip from Michael Palin's 'Around the World' series of several years ago. Also included is another URL showing an archery contest using traditional bows and arrows. Both were recorded in the capital of Bhutan, Thimphu (Tim-Poo). Brilliant! I love the colors, the image itself, the mood...there's something particularly spectacular with religion when it doesn't involve sitting and listening to some dude ranting. This is brilliant and I love the links as well...Brilliant, insightful work.

I've looked both videos. Even if the people live very ascetic, their rooms are filled. With art ... in the form of carving and murals. Everything is colorful and not bleak. I like that the traditions are really lived yet. Your pictures are excellent.

What a colourful celebration of this 'highway robbery' ;) - I mean thieving the Kings soul, thank heavens for Gurus! The rich and very detailed material with that texture and pattern looks really 'exciting and happy' ... BB I may not have commented on all your recent posts Mark & presentation of the typical and traditional life-styles by the people of Bhutan - apologies, but I read them all ... ;)

The colours involved are enough to make us wonder why we wear so many bland colours

It's a walking PiƱata!! Pass the whacking stick. Kidding aside, I really love the richness of these legends. I think they contain elements of believability...
