When I visit Ground Zero ... in my mind, I see what was there; I remember what could have been seen from within; in my mind, I see what is gone, lost; with my eyes, I see the surroundings that remain; with my mind and eyes, I am now able to see what was hidden or obscured by those structures ... but I don't see how I will ever understand 911. (About half of my work experience was in lower Manhattan; 16 years of that time [1982 to 1998] was for an employer who had offices in the WTC; after the 1993 attack, their new offices were across West Street from the WTC -- all of that adds up to about 4,000 round trips through the WTC and surrounding area)
