Description

This is a salt water fishing area and the birds gather on these cement fingers that help stop the erosion of the beach sand. The top half has three Brown Pelicans. In the lower photo, we have a collection of gulls on the left, about 9 American White Pelicans, the darker birds are Anhinga and there is a solitary Great Blue Heron which everyone else has given him/her extra space. The Anhinga is the Florida version of Cormorants. The White Pelicans, about 62 inches (158 cm) long with wing spans of 108 inches (274 cm), are larger than the Brown Pelicans. Both photos were taken a few years ago in the Singer Inlet, in Palm Beach County. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

wonder why they give a lot of room for the Great Blue Heron. guess he bad to the bone bird. wonder how much space they would give to a hark lol or a Eagle; very good shots

Interesting text and excellent captures, Dana! I like the three pelicans in the same posture, and the lonely heron with a lot of space around him !

Gorgeous shots! Animals are such intriguing things and that aloof heron is definitely a statement in and of itself! I love the distinct personalities you've captured in these shots and the light is wonderful. I have a particular fondness for pelicans and so seeing three of them doing the pelican thing is quite nice.

A couple of great photos Dana! Amazing that so many different species can be so close together, excepting the heron. He must have a track record of spearing those who get too close!

What a cozy looking group is on your picture below, and such a lively capture, too, Dana. I love your Pelicans their attitude, exactly the same, with their long beak. Impressing to see, my friend. Hope things are okay!
