Description
The bark of the sequoia is very spongy and can be over a foot thick. This tree is in the Tuolumne grove and the trail comes close to it so you can softly touch it as you pass.

Stunning. Spongy Sequoia bark! That's a marvel I have yet to experience. Though I know what it is, as I read your description, I also love the way that with just a tiny shift of mental perspective, I can see the skin of an elephant or a somewhat more alien sort of critter. This does, indeed, look infinitely strokable.
