What A Dumb Spot For A Transmat Pad by KatesFriend
Open full image in new tabDescription
A member of the Nice Girl's Guild, she never ever utters an explicative, even with her personal simulations. But young Pixie Titania le Fier is harperesquely disappointed by the blue expanse before her. "This does not look at all like Tuscany", she surveys. The largest St. Patrick's Day celebrations in the world are held in Sarteano - Greater Ireland's Emerald City. But poor Pixie, stranded on a transmat pad, she waits for packets to clear while practicing her living statue act - very popular and profitable at the busker festivals. It's a good thing she brought a book.1 Let this be a lesson to all you young people. Be prepared for delays when traveling with your Dystopia Student Discount Pass (DSDP).2 The pass provides trunk service only when bandwidth is available, overland transit may be substituted without prior advise. High volume travel to popular destinations will further slow a passenger's material transfer. This is why it is recommended that students do not travel with zombies, it could get... uncomfortable.3 On the up side, there is a complementary glass of absinthe for holds exceeding two hours in length. And remember; could be worse, could be raining. As for Sox, her enemies in the Peace Maker's GuildTM have finally cornered her. Trapped on a transmat pad in the middle of this purgatory, it has all the signs of impending judgement. With oliverish confidence, it is a lot of water after all, she feverishly scans the horizon for flashes of monochromatic light which hallmark the Osiran Technologies 'Kill-O-Zap' ruby crystal "L.A.S.E.R.".4 No doubt, her rivals are hacking control of a killer satellite at this very moment to zap her greatness (and breathtakingly fabulous good looks) from the face of the Earth. Or perhaps just to instantly singe her into a sphinx. Thus the mission could not be fulfilled. But she had one last trick in her claws: swap itineraries with the girl, it may offset their aim. The human hogs too much space and no doubt would be quite annoying in conversation, better that she die. Time to get cute and fluffy. Then Sox hesitates, a deep philosophical question wells up from the unknown depths of her soul: "Is it just to let another die in a trap which you yourself so foolishly stepped?". Probably not, but micromanaged morality didn't stop Colonel Kurtz from doing what was necessary. Remember, "it's impossible for words to describe what is necessary to those who do not know what horwa means". Now, time to snuggle up to that techno-cotton clad leg. References: 1Pixie is also a member in good standing of the Dystopian Assassins Guild. So don't get any ideas. 2Not to be confused with the Dystopia Sanitation and Dysentery Patrol. Since 2098B. 3Vegan zombies are okay. 4Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. They call it old school in Dystopia.

The next time my cat comes over oozing cute fluffiness, I will move over and try not to speak annoyingly. Very funny story. The glass of absinthe doesn't look very big, but then considering her perch and companion, maybe that's not such a bad thing. Great expressions. Pixie looks perplexed and a little out of her depth. Sox looks irritated and conniving. One of my favorite Douglas Adams' quotes is, "Kate's spirits sank to the very bottom of her being and began to prowl around there making a low growling noise." I'd say Sox is there already, and Pixie is getting close. Wonderful narrative, image, and dedication!
