Description

The end of an era, so please forgive this repost. As some of you will know, Brenda Donaldson was the tenant of Highmoor Farm, which was the scene of a battle over building rights 'til the government ruled against planning permission in the spring of 2012 I grabbed this pic while we were having a natter on the seat in the entrance of Waitrose supermarket, preparing ourselves for the slog home,in my case with far too much stuff. Not so bad for Brenda as she had a powerful pavement scooter: I was on foot! She was 85 then, and apart from the last hip replacement being rather unsatisfactory she was in pretty good health. She was telling me that the thing she dislikes most about modern life is Redundant Intimacy, for example the way folk call you by your first name when you don't know them. And kissing...far too continental! I am inclined to agree, having caught many a nasty bug from this foreign habit myself. So, "Goobye, Miss Donaldson!", I said, and staggered off. We were intending to visit a local alpaca farm together, but sadly the weather and the farming year conspired for this never to happen. Having known her since I was 5 years old and she was 22, I shall miss her a great deal. I expect the Talbot Trust will be thrilled: now they will surely renew attempts to build over her fields. At least she didn't live to witness it. That is the end now of all five of the Talbot Village farms set up by Marianne and Georgina Talbot. I am told she went into hospital to have a knee seen to and got MRSA...This still needs to be verifified.

What a shame, and there is those egotistical overblown syphilitic developers rubbing their hands in glee. What a poxy country that lets its hospital patience catch diseases. It's those pillock developers that should get the diseases. I am sure you miss her very much Andrea, it makes me wild what is going on here at the hand of Chairman CaMORON!

I had no idea you had been friends for so long. Very sorry for your loss. She was a great lady and a real fighter. Another obstacle to progress has been removed and the world is a little less for it.

Oh dear. I had rather hoped she would live forever, happily thwarting the powers that be. I'm sorry to hear she's gone. This is such a wonderful portrait, and I feel like I knew her a bit from your stories. (Not well enough to call her anything but Miss Donaldson, though!)
