Description

The Blackbirds are so keen to get the fatcakes that they perform amazing stunts. They are really ground feeding birds, but I can't leave this particular food in a more accessible position because of the squirrels foxes and dogs. Another in my series 'The triumph of content over quality': My point and shoot cameras have some severe limitations. Another shot of this behaviour Here

Strange behavior for our blackbird, he must be hungry or the food on offer is too tempting. Nice capture Andrea.

I see this kind of stuff too, it's amazing how creative some of the birds (and squirrels!) can get when there's food involved. I had a pair of flickers feeding off the suet cakes; the female had an injury and couldn't get up to it, so he was picking bits off and tossing them to her where she waited on the ground below him.

An outstanding capture. It seems to be hovering. You may have a new species here, the Harrier Jump Bird.

Quite a trick for a blackbird and hanging fat balls is no problem for my squirrels they drop two feet and grab the cage as they go past, if they miss they go round and try again.

I like both photos and I thank you for putting out the feeders for our feathered friends.

That's a great capture! I made a feeder which would tip whenever crows or magpies would land looking for free meals. Only a few magpies would ever make it long enough to grab a bite, but it was funny to watch. I would throw a few peanuts to them for trying anyway.
