Dawn Echols, retired combat medic... as in forcibly retired. She found her calling helping others wounded, permanently maimed... broken as externally as she had been on the inside. Her team had been on the verge of a major breakthrough in cybernetic prosthetics, when their funding was suddenly and inexplicably cut. Nobody even had the decency to inform them face to face... only a note outside of the locked up labs when they had arrived for work. Dawn wasn't about to be "retired" again. She gained entrance through the crawlspaces and ventilation ducts and reclaimed her files and prototypes. But what good were disks and partially assembled actuators... Whoever had been behind the funding cuts had been busy. No R&D firms, no universities would touch her now. She couldn't even afford to stay in her old apartment. Something had to give soon, or even this new dive would be beyond her means.
