Description

In typical non-linear fashion, or is it temporal dyslexia? Well, in typical Chip fashion, I’m posting the second of two photos first. I’m posting the second of two photos first, because of a blur, because of the colors, because of…well…because of the blur. The story behind the blur is simple. I moved the camera as I clicked the shutter. I did it on purpose. It was a very slow spin and jiggle done while sitting; from the seated position at a place called Tweet, I was unable to actually spin, and jiggling might have spilled my beer. As I felt the urge to spin and jiggle, I satisfied myself with…well…um…squirming in a subtle a manner as possible. This, the second of two photos, is of Blue Redder: a somewhat local performer if you count Wisconsin (Madison, I think) as local to Chicago. Blue Redder is a musical entity, though I’m not entire sure if he is solo or if they are a group. It’s one of those entertainment vagaries one encounters when one isn’t paying attention. I have been known to pay attention, on occasion, but usually if woodlice, The Russian, or Battlestar Galactica are involved. I paid attention to Blue Redder, simply because Corey was involved. No, he hasn’t decided to start his musical career, just yet, but he performed a reading at the Chicago-local phenomenon known as HomoLatte. Corey was The Writer at the function. Blue Redder was the musical followup. Blue Redder is pretty good. Very modern, but with actual musical composition involved in the making of music. (I still can’t remember if he is a solo performer with a rental backup singer…or if they are a dynamic duo of that musical sort. At any rate, I took a photograph of them, and liked the sit and squirm blur I created by, well…sitting and squirming as discretely as possible.) As one might guess, the first photograph in this diptych is of Corey, and that photo will be posted soon. I’m still deciding which one to post first. Many of them will probably be posted: candid shots, most likely. In the meantime, here’s a Blue Redder blur…just before Corey Black’s red-tinged clarity. As always, thank you for viewing, reading, and commenting, and I hope you’re all having a great week.

I like the effect you got here. Having performed music in both large groups, small groups, and entirely improvisational settings what this one says to me is that unique kind of mental "blending" that is necessary for musicians to achieve in order to make their performance work the way it should. It's something different from Empathy, and it's definitely not telepathy, but rather more like people walking in step, following parallel paths, but each wearing different shoes, if that makes any sense at all. I love how the motion-blur overlaps the performers, merging them, yet also preserving the uniqueness that makes each one add to the music, rather than just echo it.

When I saw your photo with its title, I couldn't help but think: Doppler shift. This moment as rendered by your camera does after all have a timey-wimey feel to it - yes, I grew up watching Doctor Who. Things red shifted are from the past and supposedly things blue shifted are in the future. Past, present and future tenses all reacting to and influencing each other at the same moment. To human eyes a moment of chaos perhaps but in a place called Tweet, perhaps it is the norm. At least after a couple of non-split beers. Please forgive my brevity but my wireless is appallingly slow tonight. Now comes the Monty Python retort, "Luxury, we used to dream of 48 baud".

It's a very Chip image; nice-looking earnest men seen through a blur, with colours of the space-time continuum warp overlaid so that the world is unclear, as is the exact species of homo sapien...there could be insectoid appendages in there somewhere for all I know. Great capture, and it makes me giggle to think of you squirming in your seat and trying not to spill your beer!

There is something very satisfying about this curious image, even without the narrative!

HomoLatte? I love it. Very nice result. It looks like someone is in the process of being transported.
