Description

Every landscape is a work in progress. The famous Bryce Canyon hoodoos erode, gravity loves the residue, and these long, smooth slopes are the result. Slowly, slowly, one grain at a time, the fantastical shapes of Bryce are turning themselves into dunes.

That is a great way to think of landscape! It has never occurred to me before now. A dynamic composition.

It is almost surreal! You have done an excellent job with the composition by succeeding in giving scale as well as wonderful curves and lines. A great work of art and a stunning vista which I would love to visit. My eldest brother, who has lived in the US for three years and has travelled extensively in the US, remains of the opinion that Bryce Canyon is an absolute HAVE TO SEE attraction. It is therefore also on my ever increasing bucket list! :):)

OK. My sci-fi nerd is gonna speak for a part of this comment. This is what Frank Herbert was probably attempting to portray when he created the entire Dune universe (the Duniverse?). This is the Shield Wall, before it was destroyed by Paul Atreides' (Muad'dib's) illegal "atomics", which then allowed his Feydakin warriors (on their impressively big sandworms) to completely overwhelm Harkonnen and Saudakar imperial forces. OK...all Dune flashbacks aside (I really need to stop re-reading those novels!) This is amazing! This is one of those landscape shots that gives you a great, big ah-ha moment. Waves. Oceanic currents. But wait, where's the ocean? Nature's artistic prowess is always brilliant, and you've captured both the grandeur and the wonderfully intimate subtlety of this particular work in progress. This is awe inspiring. Oh, and it's pretty, too.

Every picture I've seen of Bryce Canyon has been all about the pinnacle formations. Thank you for showing us what we've been missing!

Oh, Tara, this is absolutely brilliant! The colors and patterns look so organic, like muscle. You caught it at just the right time. The light is perfect and the trees give the image a wonderful perspective. This one belongs on a museum wall. Yep, I'm jealous.

We've all seen the big things...it is the small things that make a place unique. Beautifully done.

It's amazing to think about the timespan of landscape changes; and what a wonderful composition you've got here! Well done!

Absolutely stunning, Tara! What a beautifully composed photo! The trees impart a great sense of scale - even if we don't know exactly how big they are... At first I wondered if you had started dabbling in Bryce... But now, I see you're actually IN Bryce...and dabbling quite beautifully, indeed! (sorry - couldn't resist the Bryce puns...)

I agree completely with Chip about the Dune connection - however, there are no trees on Arrakis. Fantastic photograph, Tara. Once again, you're messing with our minds in terms of scale... I love it!
